I only just realized now that the last time I appeared in your mailbox was in November, it has been just vibes and existence for me since then and I love it. I’m twenty-four days late but happy new year my housemate.
I’m also going to blame it on the fact that I spent the whole of November 2022 planning my first out-of-country trip and also being scared about it. I had first-time traveler jitters, if you missed out on that episode of my life, check my Instagram for updates.
The year started on a very high note for most of us and I’m glad it did because it just tells me that I’m going to have an amazing year this year. How do I know? I just do. One of my goals for this year was to be wiser with money than I was last year, I became slightly better with my finances and decided to extend this to my housemates. The piggyvest savings challenge was borne out of this decision and at first, when I wanted to introduce the savings challenge to our housemates, I was pretty scared that nobody was going to save. I had a lot of “what ifs” running through my mind but I started anyway, the result of this challenge made me realize that a lot of people just wanted to be nudged in the right direction and one decision could make that happen.
The third edition of the savings challenge was created to specifically build discipline and at twenty-one days in, I’m super proud of the 500+ housemates who are still going strong, you’re doing amazing. To join the challenge, click here. Remember, no pressure; you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do and this is applicable to everything else too.
I finally did the photoshoot I’d been stalling on for months now and I swore that it was going to launch me into my very serious phase. I’m working on it, don’t shout at me abeg.
As we close in on the first month of the year, I want to encourage you to make the most of it. Let's make this year one to remember, one that we can look back on and be proud of. Here are a few suggestions for things we can do to make this year great:
Get your PVC if you still haven’t gone to pick it up. This is the final week and it’s very crucial in the decision-making process of this country. Your vote would most definitely count so dead all that talk of “my vote wouldn’t count” and go and queue to pick up your PVC.
Set goals for yourself. Whether it's a personal, professional, or financial goal, setting targets for yourself especially when you do it realistically and in bits would help you a lot. Instead of setting a six-month goal, set a three-month one or even lesser just so you don’t get overwhelmed.
Travel. If you can, take a trip to a place you've never been before. If not, explore your own city or town. There's so much to see and do out there, so don't let the opportunity pass you by.
Be kind. It's a simple thing to do, but it can make such a big difference in the world.
Learn something new. Take a class, read a book, or watch a documentary. Whatever it is, make a conscious effort to keep learning and growing.
Take care of yourself. Make sure to get enough rest, eat well, and exercise. Your body will thank you for it.
Document everything. There’s an outflux of people leaving the country every day and we wake up not knowing whether the day our friends leave is the last time we’ll ever see them again so make sure to document as much of your life and experiences.
Try not to get your heart broken so you won’t cry a lot. If you do manage to get your heart broken by anything or anyone, please eat before you cry so you don’t land in the hospital. There are not enough doctors on ground.
I am excited to embark on this new year with all of you and I hope we can achieve great things together. Let's make this year one to remember.
Write back if you can, I enjoy reading from you.
Love,
Your housemate,
Osasbaby💜
